World's tallest and shortest, side by sidePrintable Version

World's tallest and shortest, side by side - click to enlarge

Now what would the world's shortest man look like next to the world's tallest?

Robert Pershing Wadlow is commonly believed to have been the tallest man ever at 272 centimeters (8 ft 11.1 in) and 199 kilograms (439 lb).

Gul Mohammed is believed to have been the shortest man ever at 57 centimeters (1 ft 10.5 in) and 17.0 kilograms (37.5 lb).

Wadlow was born in 1918 and died in 1940. Mohammed was born in 1957 and died in 1997.

Here, for fun, is a unique montage of photos which has been scaled to size in order to demonstrate the extreme ends of the human height range.

Although WLMD has not made comment on any such phenomena as bigfoots or hobbits previously, I'm sure those more acquainted with the field will enjoy this comparison.

Technical note
The photo of Wadlow was pasted into an editor, then a line drawn from the top of his head to the sole of his shoe. The image editing software provided a measurement for this line, which was correlated to Wadlow's actual height of 272 centimeters.

Using basic mathematics, a calculation was made as to how tall Mohammed would have to appear in the image in order to be at the correct scale. A second line was drawn to exactly that height, then the Mohammed photo was pasted into the image and scaled down until he matched the height of the second line.
