Coelacanth caught in Zanzibar, Tanzania

Fishermen have caught a 1.34 metre, 27 kg coelacanth off the northern tip of the island.

This brings the total coelacanth count from Tanzania up to about 30.

Researchers speculate that diminishing shallow-water resources are forcing fishermen to cast nets into deeper waters - leading to the increased coelacanth catches.
